Pointless

This piece was done in response to some
continuing personal sagas which, frankly, are pointless. Here's a way to get those frustrating thoughts out of your head and onto the "paper", so to speak. After I finished, I noticed that my columns are also "marching" along, which is also the way I sometime feel as subjects are discussed over and over again. Repetitive, and pointless, and now expressed in fabric.

Bougainvilla on Porch Stairs

This is the first year I am seeing my bougainvilla blooming as it begins twining about my front porch stairs.
For three years I have been trying to find a spot that it would like here in Florida. Last spring before we headed north I transplanted it near the front porch, and was elated when we returned in the fall to find it growing profusely and out of control in this new location. Now, I am blessed with these lovely spring blooms. It's gorgeous.

A New Studio Pal

Today I brought home a new addition to my studio. I found this doll, whose tag said "Miss Smiley", at one my local junk shop/antique haunts, and she made me smile. Now I knew I had to have her sitting in my studio for those days when I needed a little cheering up or help out of a creative slump. Wouldn't you have bought her too?

New Link for article

Sorry, but the link I posted is no longer operational. You can click on it and when there, search for Material World, and you should be able to access the article. If not, try clicking on Entertainment, and maybe you'll find it that way. If not, sorry you missed it!

I'm in the Newspaper!

This is an exciting day, I am in an article in the Northwest Indiana Times
about my participation in the Journal Quilt project. You can see the article at www.nwitimes.com/articles/2007/04/08/entertainment. Click on the first article, It's a Material World. This was a lucky happenstance, the paper was looking for a local angle on the quilt show coming to Chicago, and found me! Unfortunately, you cannot see the photos of myself and five journal quilt projects online. I'm anxious to see the actual newspaper so I can see them too!

Glimpses

Glimpses is the next piece I've put together from my handpainted fabrics. Not quilted yet, I think the thread will add another dimension.
All the small sections of lightness popping out around the piece reminded me of glimpses into something bigger and better underneath the image.

More painted fabric pieces

Here's more pieces I painted and sunprinted the other day. The bottom one started with an overpainted commercial fabric, sunprinted with strings of beads. The top one was also a commercial fabric, painted and sunprinted with circular shapes, then stamped with black circles. The long pieces with sunprinted leaves were painted on white fabric, using oleander leaves as the mask. These should be interesting to use in my fabric art.

Fabric Painting Fun

Summer Song is a 12 by 12 inches piece I recently made using all handpainted fabrics. I do this from time to time, but finally decided to use some of the fabrics and make an art quilt. The strips in the middle were made with sunprinting tissue paper triangles on painted cloth.
Easy and rewarding technique.

New Year, New Blog

Hello again! I've started a new blog and am looking forward to
